They are usually limited to traditional I/O fabrics for transporting raw frame data for processing. The overhead in processing the fabric protocol uses valuable CPU compute cycles that make it prohibitive for processing video from live HDTV formats. Enabling High Bandwidth with PCI Express

NextIO has developed a complete end-to-end connectivity solution that enables the transport of high bandwidth HDTV formats using PCI Express technology. PCI Express technology provides the bandwidth as well as the Reliability, Accessibility and Serviceability (RAS) to address the increased demand for HDTV formats. In addition to leveraging existing infrastructure, NextIO solutions can utilize off-the-shelf PCI Express video frame capture cards for added infrastructure cost savings. Live video and audio data is captured and transported via PCI Express to a pool of servers that then provide video and audio compression which reduces the transmission bandwidth needs by more than 80%. The compressed HD quality video can be sent over satellite, cable, IP and wireless networks or archived in direct-attached or networked storage. NextIO's solution enables dynamic matching (assigning) of servers to the various video feeds (associated with video frame cards). This is especially critical when doing real time processing on the video feed inputs to ensure the proper amount of compute is available. This enables optimal performance via load balancing and provides seamless and cost-effective failover.
